Put mining heat to work

A miner turns electricity into heat while mining cryptocurrency. A room miner warms the surrounding air; any mining revenue may help cover electricity costs and varies with network and market conditions.

Canaan Avalon Mini 3 is one room-heating example. Compare other listed models in the estimate below.

  • Reliable equipment

Choose a device suited to the space and the way you heat it.

  • Simple setup for a room

A room miner heats the air directly. Check the power supply, airflow and noise before choosing a model.

  • Offset part of your heating costs

Mining can earn revenue while the device heats. The amount depends on the market and operating conditions.

Check your daily heat and costs

Choose a miner, set its running hours and check the electricity price. Compare heat output and electricity costs, with a mining revenue estimate when data is available.

Listed power is an estimate of device consumption, not a measurement at your site.

Starts at 7.8 EUR ct/kWh from the Norway hosting reference. Adjust it to match your bill. This is not a live exchange price.

Adjust power and usable heat

100% assumes all device electricity becomes heat available to the space. Lower this for heat lost outdoors or not needed by the building. Pumps and other equipment are not included.

How this estimate works

Heat = device power × running hours × the usable heat share. Electricity uses the EUR price entered above, held constant for the chosen hours. Mining revenue scales to those hours and converts from USD with a fresh rate. This is an energy-cost comparison, not full profit or a forecast.

A negative entered energy price does not necessarily make the whole bill negative. If mining revenue exceeds this electricity component, equipment, installation and other costs still apply.

What does 10 kWh of heat cost?

Each bar shows the energy cost for the same amount of useful heat. Mining rows also show the estimated revenue and what remains to pay when market data is available.

Example assumptions. Heat pump SCOP 3.0, electric boiler efficiency 100%, gas boiler efficiency 90% and mining heat recovered 90%. Energy only, excluding installation, auxiliary equipment and service.

One device runs just long enough to supply 10 kWh of useful heat within 24 hours. An electric boiler covers any shortfall. S23 Hydro power is approximate.

How to connect mining heat

Where will you use the heat?

Explore direct room heating or a system that transfers heat into your building. Start with your space and compare clearly stated assumptions.

A room miner releases heat directly into the surrounding air. The right device depends on your heat demand, power supply and acceptable noise.

Explore home miners
  • Check the actual operating mode and noise level for the exact device.
  • Confirm the electrical circuit and ventilation before installation.
  • Room area alone does not determine a suitable miner or guarantee enough heat.

Compare heating options

Compare the same useful heat demand, including mining revenue. Choose a real miner, review its power and enter the energy prices on your bill.

Use one electricity price for the comparison. The automatic reference is wholesale electricity only; enter your full bill price when comparing household costs.

Adjust system performance

Performance values are editable examples, not measurements of your installation. SCOP is usable seasonal heat divided by electricity consumed; gas efficiency uses the same gross-calorific-value basis as the gas price.

Include pumps, fans and controls not already in the miner's consumption. This extra electricity is charged, but is not counted as additional usable heat. Set the mining heat share to the portion you can actually use.

Sources and calculation basis

Electricity uses the Elering 30-day reference or your entered price. The gas reference remains dated and has different charge coverage; add the relevant bill charges for a fair household comparison. Gas reference period: H1 2026. Sources checked: 30 October 2026.

Useful mining heat = device electricity × useful heat share. The comparison limits runtime to the selected period and credits no unused heat. Bitcoin subsidy reference excludes transaction-fee income, pool fees and downtime. These are adjustable scenarios, not measured building performance or a payout forecast.
